Many people have been rescued with others reported dead while trying to cross River Benue in a boat at Ibi in Taraba State Tuesday.
The boat was said to be carrying a Peugeot J5 bus and suspected passengers included four female adults, eight female children and six male children.
However, the number could be more as other persons are believed to be inside the boat too.
The vehicle had taken its passengers from Ibi town and was crossing over to northern side of the river to Sarki Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area whose market days are on Tuesday.
Apex News Exclusive gathered that the river is broken its bank due to high rains but the boat operators had taken the risk of ferrying the passengers when the boat capsized into the deep.
It was gathered that a search could not be immediately conducted as the water level is so high but later many of the passengers were rescued by a team of deep-water swimmers.
However, a man confirmed that his wife was among the passengers and she has not been found yet.
A security officer at the scene of the incident told Apex News Exclusive that sympathizers had throng the area but could only watch helplessly.
